“Treated water” refers to water that has been purified to reduce the concentrations of radioactive substances contained in it, with the exception of tritium, to safe levels stipulated by the government thereby reducing human and environmental risks as much as possible. If this water is to be discharged into the environment, it will be treated so that the concentrations of radioactive substances, including tritium, fall within the safety levels stipulated by government prior to discharge.
