Visit from the CEO of French company EDF
The CEO of France's largest electricity company - Électricité de France (hereafter, EDF) - paid a courtesy visit to TEPCO's head office.
Ever since TEPCO and EDF entered into an exchange agreement in 1989, the two companies have engaged in numerous exchanges and mutual cooperation efforts in a broad range of fields relating to the power industry.
Visit to TEPCO's head office and inspection of the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Station by Malaysian company TNB
Malaysia's largest electricity company - Tenaga National Berhad (hereafter, TNB), paid a visit to TEPCO. TEPCO formed an exchange agreement with TNB in 1998 and, under this agreement, TNB requested to engage in discussions at TEPCO's head office and inspect the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Station.
The first day kicked off with an inspection of the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Station before leading into a discussion session. TNB gained a deeper insight into the various safety measures and safety structure initiatives implemented at the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Station as a result of the lessons learned from the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station.
The second day continued with a visit to TEPCO's head office, where a discussion was held on safety management to broaden TNB's understanding of the initiatives TEPCO has put in place. TNB also observed the 'disaster response room' located at the head office.
Inspection of the Ukishima Solar Power Plant by the Arab Republic of Egypt's Senior Vice-Minister of Electricity and Energy
The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is involved in international cooperation efforts in Egypt, including mega solar power projects. For this reason, high-level government officials, including Egypt's Senior Vice-Minister of Electricity and Energy, were invited to Japan to gain a better insight into the technology incorporated into mega solar plants in Japan. An inspection of the Ukishima Solar Power Plant formed part of these activities.
Both the Ukishima Solar Power Plant and the Ogishima Solar Power Plant are mega solar power plants established on the Kawasaki City waterfront as a joint venture between Kawasaki City and TEPCO.
Visit from policy makers from Central Asian countries
As part of the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation Program (CAREC), hosted by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), policy makers representing the power industry in Central Asian countries visited TEPCO.
(Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan)
Interest in smart meters, grids and communities, and energy management systems is high among Central Asian countries, and particular interest was devoted to the smart meters in use by TEPCO.
Holding of the World Energy Council (WEC) Tokyo workshop
The World Energy Council (WEC) Asian workshop (Theme: Power supply in major metropolitan areas) was held at TEPCO.
Most East Asian countries have major metropolitan areas with high population densities, making the stable supply of power to these urban environments an increasingly important concern. The workshop touched upon the measures implemented to maintain a stable power supply and large-scale blackout countermeasures in Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Seoul and Tokyo, leading to an energetic exchange of opinions among the participants.
Visit from the CEO of the State Grid Corporation of China
The CEO (President) of one of the largest power transmission and distribution companies in the world, the State Grid Corporation of China, paid a courtesy visit to TEPCO.
TEPCO established an exchange agreement in 1986 with the predecessor to the State Grid Corporation of China - the Bureau of Hydroelectric Power of China - which has led to numerous top-level meetings and exchanges, and this deep, friendly relationship is one that goes back some 30 years.
Visit from the President of the Korea Electric Power Corporation
The President of the Korea Electric Power Corporation paid TEPCO a courtesy visit.
TEPCO and the Korea Electric Power Corporation first entered into an exchange agreement in 1988, which has since led to close, friendly ties developing between the two companies, and continued exchanges and cooperation in the field of electric power.
Visit from principal executives of the Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and Indonesia's Power Industry
Officials from the Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (hereafter, ESDM) and members of the management of Perusahaan Listrik Negara (hereafter, PLN) visited TEPCO. A lively discussion was held at TEPCO covering various issues, such as interconnections with regional power systems in Japan, power system operation, and the safety measures implemented at nuclear power plants.
Signing ceremony for an exchange agreement entered into with the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT)
Members of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (hereafter, EGAT) visited TEPCO to renew the two companies' exchange agreement.
TEPCO and EGAT first entered into an exchange agreement in 1998, and this has since led to close exchanges and cooperation between the two companies. EGAT loaned TEPCO two gas turbine generators (128,000 kW/generator) free of charge to help deal with spikes in power demand following the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station. This is representative of the long-standing relationship of trust built up between both parties as a result of this agreement.
Visits to the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station by representatives of embassies in Japan
Inspection tours to the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station have been carried out by representatives of embassies in Japan. Embassy workers, including diplomats from Germany, Canada, Brazil, the U.S., France, South Korea, Italy and Holland, have toured the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, receiving an on-site briefing on the progress of decommissioning work.
Providing accurate information to deepen understanding of the current state of affairs at the site, not just to power companies, but to government representatives from various countries as well, is a vitally important role of TEPCO's International Affairs Office.
