Signing of an Information Exchange Agreement on Nuclear Safety with Fortum Power & Heat Oy

Yesterday, TEPCO signed an information exchange agreement on nuclear safety with Fortum Power & Heat Oy (hereinafter referred to as, "Fortum"), a general energy company in Finland that has achieved excellence in nuclear power operation.

With the understanding that mutually exchanging information with overseas operators is vital for improving nuclear safety, Fortum and TEPCO have strengthened their relationship through the joint sponsorship of workshops, etc. Through these workshops, TEPCO has provided knowledge on seismic resistance assessments and has obtained know-how from Fortum about risk-informed approach for maintenance management and methods for assessing aging/degradation, which TEPCO has been reflecting in its own policies.

Both parties have now signed an information exchange agreement for the purpose of maintaining their good relationship and further promoting the sharing of experience and practices that will improve nuclear safety. The scope of the agreement is as follows:

- Matters pertaining to the safe operation of nuclear power plants
- Matters pertaining to the design of nuclear power plant facilities
- Matters pertaining to the management of nuclear power plant facilities
- Matters pertaining to the organizational operation of nuclear power plants
- Matters pertaining to radioactive waste treatment and disposal
- Matters pertaining to the decommissioning of nuclear power plants, etc.

TEPCO will continue to strive to further improve the safety and reliability of nuclear power stations based on knowledge obtained from overseas.
