Signing of a “Written Agreement on Technical Cooperation for the Decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station”

Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings, Inc. (hereinafter referred to as, “TEPCO HD”) and Japan Nuclear Fuel Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as, “JNFL”) have signed a written agreement on technical cooperation for the decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station.

By signing a comprehensive agreement pertaining to the decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, TEPCO HD shall obtain technical cooperation from JNFL in regards to the handling and analysis of alpha nuclides (nuclides that emit alpha rays), which is one of technical issues that much to be overcome as we move forward with mid/long-term decommissioning efforts.

TEPCO HD has been engaged in efforts aimed at decommissioning the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station in coordination with various agencies and entities. This agreement will further strengthen the framework for promoting decommissioning with the collective strength of the entire country, thereby enabling us to move safely and steadily forward with mid/long-term efforts aimed at the decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station.

JNFL handles and analyzes alpha nuclides on a daily basis at the Rokkasho Reprocessing Facility, and will proactively cooperate by providing to TEPCO HD the technical prowess and knowledge it has cultivated, thereby greatly contributing to solving various technical issues pertaining to the decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station.

This agreement offers a new opportunity for TEPCO HD and JNFL to strengthen our partnership and move safely and steadily forward with the decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station.
