Establishment of New TEPCO Group Corporate Philosophy

Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings, Inc. (“TEPCO”) presented its Group Corporate Philosophy in 2001 and has ever since been running its operations while flexibly adapting to the ever-changing business environment. Group-wide endeavors are currently underway to promote measures aimed at enhancing profitability and corporate value, in an effort to respond to full liberalization of the retail electricity and gas markets, global warming issues, and other topics after the accident at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station.

In the meantime, the environment surrounding TEPCO has been changing rapidly, with examples including a global trend toward achieving carbon neutrality; society’s growing interest toward Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG); and the ensuring of electric power resilience.
Recognizing the importance for the TEPCO Group to face such social changes in a sincere manner and to both further refine corporate value and commit to fulfilling responsibility for Fukushima, TEPCO established a new Group Corporate Philosophy. This Philosophy was developed through repeated discussions between management and young and mid-career employees who will forge the TEPCO Group’s future, while steadfastly transmitting the Group’s foundational mission of supporting the safe and comfortable life of customers through stable energy provision.
TEPCO also decided to launch the Secretariat of Corporate Philosophy Project Division on August 1, 2021 as an organization that reports directly to the president. This move is intended to have all employees act based on the Philosophy in a drive to achieve what the new Corporate Philosophy envisions.

To realize concrete strategies in the Fourth Comprehensive Special Business Plan, under the Corporate Philosophy the TEPCO Group will build a new corporate culture that dares to innovate for customers, and strive to be a company that customers can continue to trust and choose.
TEPCO takes to heart how the string of inappropriate incidents relating to its nuclear power station has seriously damaged trust from local communities and society at large, and in response it will once again reinforce its values of “Top priority on safety” and “Fulfill our responsibilities.”
All employees will always bear in mind that trust is the foundation of every operation and behave in a sincere way to earn society’s trust and satisfaction of customers.
