TEPCO announced that on January 12, 2021 it had completed safety measure renovations at Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Station Unit 7 implemented to comply with the new regulatory requirements after which we began conducting equipment integrity inspections.
Today, it was discovered that work to install dampers*1 in zones in which positive pressure air conditioners for the Unit 6/7 main control rooms are stored*2, which is part of Unit 7 safety measure renovations, has not been completed.
This damper installation was being managed as part of safety measure renovations for Unit 6, and therefore overlooked when we confirmed completion of safety measure renovations at Unit 7. The discovery was made as safety measure renovations at Unit 6 continued.
Going forward, we shall take steps to ensure that checks of all projects are made when confirming completion to ensure that a similar error is not made again. And, we are making every effort to complete the aforementioned damper installation as quickly as possible.
Inspections of other renovations shall be carried out as planned.
We will continue to provide detailed explanations of the status of renovations and inspections.
*1 Device that prevents the leakage of fire extinguishing gases from air conditioning ducts connected to the outside.
*2 Instrument control power panel zones inside of the Unit 6/7 control building.
