Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings, Inc.
Today, the 5th meeting of the Inter-Ministerial Council concerning the Continuous Implementation of the Basic Policy on Handling of ALPS Treated Water was held and it was indicated that the ministries and agencies will continue to work together to ensure the implementation of specific measures for safety and adverse impacts on reputation, as well as to foster understanding, in order to make progress on measures for the discharge of ALPS treated water and to steadily implement the basic policy..
TEPCO will do its utmost to thoroughly implement measures according to the government's basic policy on the discharge of ALPS treated water into the sea, such as designing and operating facilities in a manner that ensures safety and strengthening sea area monitoring, etc., and we will continue to prioritize safety as we move forward with the construction of dilution and discharge facility and other facilities for ALPS treated water.
We will fully engage with the interest and concerns of the people of the region and other parties concerned by continuing to explain our approach and our response, and further disseminate information based on scientific evidence to people within and outside Japan in an easy-to-understand manner to deepen the public's understanding of decommissioning and treated water countermeasures including the handling of ALPS treated water.
In addition, we will strengthen our countermeasures for industries that may be affected by adverse impacts on reputation, such as by contributing to the activities of the "Sanriku Jouban Mono Network," which was established by the government with the intent of preventing additional adverse impacts on reputation.
In December of last year, we compiled criteria for providing compensation for reputational damage that occurs despite these efforts and we will continue to consider specific details while carefully listening to the opinions of the parties concerned.
As the party responsible for the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station Accident, TEPCO will strive to rebuild trust—which is the foundation of our business—and fulfill our responsibility to "balance recovery with decommissioning" by ensuring the safety and quality of treated water countermeasures and decommissioning at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, and steadily moving forward with each and every task.
