Considering the Japanese government's basic policy decided in April 2021, TEPCO had been reviewing the details of the design and operation of facilities for securing safety regarding the handling of ALPS treated water at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, listening to opinions of the people in the region and parties concerned. On December 21, 2021, TEPCO submitted the "Application Documents for Approval to Amend the Implementation Plan for Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station Specified Nuclear Facility" for the basic design of ALPS treated water dilution/discharge facility and related facilities to the Nuclear Regulation Authority, and today, these application documents were approved by the Nuclear Regulation Authority.
Regarding the design, facility and security of ALPS treated water dilution/discharge facility and related facilities and the report on radiological impact assessments regarding the discharge of ALPS treated water into the sea, TEPCO has taken seriously the items that pointed out by the Nuclear Regulation Authority during review meetings and by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). TEPCO has reflected these items onto the revised applications for approval to amend the implementation plan.
In addition to cooperating fully with reviews by the IAEA, we will continue to thoroughly implement measures based on the Japanese government's basic policy that will ensure safety according to the implementation plan, provide accurate information based on scientific evidence to parties in Japan and abroad such as the radiological impact on the public and the environment, and strengthen monitoring of radioactive materials.
Furthermore, we will do our utmost to deepen the public's understanding of our decommissioning efforts by endeavoring to explain our approach and actions regarding the handling of ALPS treated water, continuing to take people's concerns and opinions seriously and engaging in respond to each of them.
