March 11, 2021
Tomoaki Kobayakawa
President
Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings, Inc.
I wish to observe today, March 11, 2021, by extending my deepest condolences on behalf of TEPCO to all victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake. Also, I sincerely apologize to the people of Fukushima and society as a whole for their continuing heavy burden and concerns regarding the accident at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station. In addition, I express our heartfelt sympathies to those affected by the earthquake off the coast of Fukushima Prefecture on February 13. We sincerely hope that the information we disseminated addressed the needs and concerns of the local community regarding the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, and we are aiming to continue improving such efforts going forward.
The situation at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station has improved since the accident and we are now working toward its systematic decommissioning. In this regard we are very appreciative of the guidance and cooperation of the national government, local governments, related organizations, and cooperating companies.
We will steadily proceed with our safe decommissioning work based on the “Mid-and-Long-Term Roadmap towards Decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station” and the “Mid-and-Long-Term Decommissioning Action Plan,” which was announced in March of last year.
Regarding the revitalization of Fukushima, we are striving to accelerate our support activities, ever mindful that evacuation orders have not been lifted and residents have not returned to many locations.
On the matter of nuclear damage compensation, we are continuing to make a firm effort to thoroughly compensate every person based on the concept of “completion of every single payment”, as indicated in the "three commitments."
Our responsibilities as the main party involved in the accident remain unchanged in regard to revitalization and decommissioning.
As we observe this March 11th, the 10th anniversary of the accident, TEPCO management and employees remain committed to never forgetting what has occurred. We are continuing to reflect learnings from the accident in our corporate culture. We are also working to help rejuvenate decommissioning-related industries, including by promoting the participation of local companies in decommissioning work, aiming to move forward as a company that is truly dedicated to serving people and the local community.
In closing, please be assured we are doing our utmost to balance the recovery of Fukushima with the decommissioning of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station.
