We hereby announce that TEPCO and the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) have signed an agreement for a four-year research collaboration.
UKAEA has also reached an agreement with UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and the UK’s Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) for the funding for this collaboration, which will support the research and development of robotics and remote-control technology that will be expected to contribute to decommissioning work under severe conditions at TEPCO’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station and at Sellafield in the UK.
Robot and remote-control technologies represent one of the key success factors for fuel debris retrieval, which is one of the most important challenges at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station.
TEPCO hopes to achieve improved safety and automation technologies by applying the fruits of this collaboration to our digitally-controlled systems, including in the area of remote-controlled robots.
