Tokyo Electric Power Co, Inc. (TEPCO) announced that operating revenues for
the third quarter of fiscal year 2007 (from Oct. 1 to Dec. 31, 2007) increased
by 2.4% from the same period of the previous fiscal year to 3,971.8 billion yen
(up 2.9% to 3,791.2 billion yen on a non-consolidated basis). Ordinary income
decreased by 62.2% to 157.2 billion yen (down 70.1% to 108.0 billion yen on
a non-consolidated basis). Due to extraordinary loss of 175.2 billion yen
(172.9 billion yen on a non-consolidated basis) resulting from the current
estimate of inspection and restoration costs of the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear
Power Station hit by the Niigata-Chuetsu-Oki Earthquake, net loss was 3.0 billion
yen (32.7 billion yen on a non-consolidated basis).
Electricity sales in the third quarter increased by 2.4% from the same period of
the previous fiscal year to 218.8 billion kWh, due to increased demand in large
industrial power sector and the increase in air-conditioning demand caused by
the effect of a hot summer.
Electricity sales for residential use increased by 2.4% to 68.0 billion kWh;
electricity sales for low-voltage power in the non-liberated sector decreased by
0.4% to 9.4 billion kWh; and electricity sales for specific-scale demand
increased by 2.6% to 141.4 billion kWh, compared with the same period of
the previous fiscal year, respectively.
On the revenues side, electricity revenues increased by 3.3% from the same
period of the previous fiscal year to 3,572.6 billion yen due to the increase
in electricity sales. Operating revenues, including sales to other companies,
etc., increased by 2.4% to 3,971.8 billion yen (up 2.9% to 3,791.2 billion yen
on a non-consolidated basis). Ordinary revenues increased 2.1% to 4,018.7 billion
yen (up 2.7% to 3,815.5 billion yen on a non-consolidated basis).
On the expenses side, in spite of the decrease in personnel expenditure caused by
reexamining the corporate pension plan, ordinary expenses in electric business
increased by 9.8% from the same period of the previous fiscal year to 3,861.5
billion yen (up 10.5% to 3,707.4 billion yen on a non-consolidated basis) due to
substantial increase in fuel cost and electricity purchase expenses caused by
the shutdown of the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Station.
