This is Japan's first bottom-fixed offshore wind power turbine.
Research began in August 2009 to ascertain wind and ocean conditions, and the impact on the environment from offshore structures, in response to a public appeal by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO).
In January 2013, demonstration tests using the actual turbine were performed in cooperation with NEDO, and commercial operation commenced on January 1, 2019.
