Fuel cost and CO2 emissions reduced after replacement of gas turbine etc.
Yokohama Thermal Power Station Unit 2 at Group 7 restarted its operations yesterday after renewing its turbine to the latest model, Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) announced. It's the first out of the total 8 units for which their gas turbines etc. are being replaced in succession for the purpose of improving outputs and generating efficiency at Yokohama Thermal Power Station Group 7 (fuel: LNG, rated output: 350MW x 4 units) and Group 8 (fuel: LNG, rated output: 350MW x 4 units). Total of 8 units at Group 7 and 8 are all "Advanced Combined Cycle" type thermal generation facilities.
The renewal improved generation efficiency from 54.1% to 55.8% and rated output from 350 MW to 377 MW. As a result, fuel costs could be cut by up to 1 billion yen (approx. $8 million) and CO2 emissions by 30 thousand tons.
TEPCO will continue to strive to strategically reduce fuel costs and improve profitability while supplying stable and inexpensive electricity. At the same time, TEPCO also generates funds to bring Fukushima back to normal.
