Fukushima Daiichi NPS Prompt Report 2013

Fukushima Daiichi NPS Prompt Report (Nov 09, 2013)The Leak of the Accumulated Water inside the Dike in H6 area in Fukushima Daiichi NPS

At around 1:11 PM today (on November 9), a patrolman of an associated company on a patrol around the contaminated-water tank found that accumulated water (water level inside the dike: Approx. 12 centimeter) inside the dike (near H6-N-A1 tank) was leaking a dike in H6 area in Fukushima Daiichi NPS.
At around 2:15 PM on the same day, a TEPCO employee confirmed the leak.

The puddle of the leak water was found over a range of approx. 80×100 centimeter. There is no probability for the leak water flowing into ocean, for there is no drainage channel near the leak point. In addition, we confirmed there was no leak from tanks in that area.

We announce the situation at the site and the result for the water measurement as follows.
[Measurement results for the water inside the dike in H6 area]
Cesium-134: Below the detection limit value (detection limit value: 9.7Bq/L)
Cesium-137: Below the detection limit value (detection limit value: 14Bq/L)
Sr-90: 140Bq/L (measurement with a simplified method)

As an emergent water-stopping measure, we installed a water-stopping plate and sandbags inside the dike with the leak (near the dike drain valve on the south of H6-N-A1 tank). At 6:47 PM today, we confirmed accordingly that the leak stopped.

From 6:39PM to 7:30PM, as a control measure, we transferred a part of the water in that dike (29m3) to the underground reservoir No.7. We confirmed no abnormalities such as leak in that transfer.
