(Outline of the incident)
At 2:48 PM on April 18, 2013, an alarm indicating a charger panel failure went off during power supply switching work at Unit 7 under regular inspection. During the site investigation performed to identify the cause of the incident, a TEPCO employee found
a burn on the switch of the DC 250V charger panel* installed in the regular electric item room in the second basement of the Control Building at around 6:00 PM on the same day. Though something like soot was found in the lower part of the charger panel when the alarm went off, no fire or smoke was found. At 6:03 PM on the same day, the incident was reported to the fire department. Upon site investigation, the incident was judged to be a fire by the fire department at 9:30 AM today.

There was no release of radioactive materials to the outside environment due to the incident. No fire or smoke was found in the location where the burns were found in the charger panel and there is no possibility of fire spreading.

* Charger panel
Charges the battery by converting alternate current into direct current while supplying direct current power to the load systems.
