Press Release (Feb 13,2012)
FY2011 Third Quarter Financial Results (April 1 through December 31, 2011)
The Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. (TEPCO) announced that operating revenues
for the FY2011 third quarter (from April 1 to December 31, 2011) decreased
4.0% from the same period of the previous fiscal year to 3,800.8 billion yen
(down 4.8% to 3,623.6 billion yen on a non-consolidated basis). Ordinary
loss was 220.5 billion yen (257.0 billion yen on a non-consolidated basis).
Net loss was 623.0 billion yen (637.5 billion yen on a non-consolidated basis).
Electricity sales decreased 11.8% over the same period of the previous fiscal
year to 193.0 billion kWh as a result of a decrease of all types of electricity
usage compared to the previous year due to customer cooperation in helping us
save electricity, a decline in production activities and decreased air-
conditioner demand due to relatively low temperatures this summer.
Per demand type, the electricity sales for residential usage decreased by 10.9%
to 65.1 billion kWh, low-voltage users decreased by 11.9% to 8.0 billion kWh,
and those for specified-scale demand decreased by 12.2% to 119.9 billion kWh,
compared with the previous fiscal year, respectively.
On the revenue side, electricity industry sales revenues decreased 5.4% over
the same period of the previous fiscal year to 3,371.6 billion yen due to such
factors as a decrease in electricity sales. Operating revenues, including
electricity sales to other companies, etc., decreased by 4.0% to 3,800.8
billion yen (down 4.8% to 3,623.6 billion yen on a non-consolidated basis).
Ordinary revenues decreased by 4.2% to 3,857.1 billion yen (down 4.8% to
3,670.5 billion yen on a non-consolidated basis).
On the expense side, ordinary expenses increased 8.8% from the previous fiscal
year to 4,077.6 billion yen (up 8.6% to 3,927.6 billion yen on a non-
consolidated basis) due to an increase in fuel costs caused by a decrease in
power normally supplied from nuclear power stations, in spite of our efforts
to cut down expenses such as reducing personnel expenses by cutting earnings
and bonuses and reducing repair expenses by cutting procurement expenses of
materials and services.
Extraordinary income was 1,619.8 billion yen (1,619.5 billion yen on a
non-consolidated basis), due to Grants-in-aid from the Nuclear Damage
Compensation Facilitation Corporation concerning the accident of Fukushima
Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant etc. totaling 1,580.3 billion yen.
Extraordinary loss was 2,001.6 billion yen (1,998.9 billion yen on a non-
consolidated basis), comprised of the Extraordinary Loss on Disaster of
312.2 billion yen (311.9 billion yen on a non-consolidated basis) resulting
from restoration costs, etc. of the properties damaged by the Tohoku-Chihou-
Taiheiyou-Oki Earthquake, and nuclear damage compensation of 1,644.5 billion
yen.
