The operating revenues for the interim FY 2008 increased 7.2% from the same term of
the previous year to 2,870.2 billion yen (non-consolidated figure increased 7.8% to
2,746.8 billion yen). The ordinary loss was 164.4 billion yen (non-consolidated figure
was 196.1 billion yen). The interim net loss was 109.3 billion yen (non-consolidated
figure 128.4 billion yen).
Our total electricity sales was 147.9 billion kWh, which was nearly equivalent to
the figure of the same term of the previous year. The reason is that the sales of
commercial and industrial power was below the level of the same term of the previous
year due to the decrease in air-conditioning demand caused by the lower temperature
in August and September compared with the last summer, although the sales of the
large industrial power sector increased.
By type of demand, electricity sales for residential use increased 0.1% from the same
term of the previous year to 45.5 billion kWh, low-voltage power in the non-liberalized
sector decreased 5.3% from the same term of the previous year to 6.3 billion kWh, and
electricity sales to specific-scale demand increased 0.3% from the same term of the
previous year to 96.1 billion kWh.
On the revenue side, the electricity revenues increased 7.5% from the same term of the
previous year to 2,582.1 billion yen due to the increase in electricity sales caused
by the fuel cost adjustment system. The operating revenues increased 7.2% from the
same term of the previous year to 2,870.2 billion yen (non-consolidated figure
increased 7.8% from the same term of the previous year to 2,746.8 billion yen) after
adding intercompany power sales and sales of power to other companies. The ordinary
revenues increased 7.6% from the same term of the previous year to 2,909.2 billion yen
(non-consolidated figure increased 7.9% from the same term of the previous year to
2,767.5 billion yen).
The ordinary expenses increased 23.4% from the same term of the previous year to
3,073.7 billion yen (non-consolidated figure increased 24.5% from the same term of
the previous year to 2,963.7 billion yen) due to the substantial increase in fuel
cost and electricity purchase expenses caused by fuel price spike in addition to the
shutdown of the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Station.
