Press Release (Aug 01, 2016)TEPCO CO2 Emissions Factor for FY 2015

TEPCO Energy Partner, Incorporated

TEPCO Energy Partner, Incorporated (hereinafter called TEPCO Energy Partner) reported1 today the CO2 emissions factor for FY 2015 based on the "Act on Promotion of Global Warming Countermeasures" to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Ministry of the Environment.
The CO2 emissions factor for FY 2015 was 0.500kg-CO2/kWh before adjustments associated with Feed-in Tariff renewable energy sources2 and the Kyoto mechanism credit3 and after being reflected 0.491kg-CO2/kWh, with both amounts having decreased by 1% from the previous fiscal year. This was due to the ratio of thermal power having declined for the amount of electricity generated.
These values for each electric utility are expected to be released by the government after a confirmation of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Ministry of the Environment in the future.
TEPCO Energy Partner and TEPCO Group will continue to implement environment friendly business activities, and make a contribution to promoting preventive measures for global warming in accordance with Japan's energy and environment policies.

1 TEPCO Energy Partner, an operator of retail electricity business, submitted this report. All General Electricity Utilities and Specified-Scale Electricity Utilities with retail electricity businesses are to complete and submit this report to the responsible ministries.
2 Under the Feed-in Tariff Scheme for Renewable Energy, all electricity customers in principle pay the surcharge proportional to the amount of electricity they have consumed, and then the environmental values are to be fairly distributed amongst them. In accordance with Japan's regulations, these are reflected in the adjusted CO2 emissions factor.
3 The Kyoto mechanism credit in the first commitment period prescribed by the Kyoto Protocol that TEPCO purchased in FY2014 and FY2015 is reflected in the adjusted CO2 emissions factor in accordance with Japan's regulations.
