We greatly appreciate the understanding and cooperation for saving electricity. TEPCO announces its electric power supply and demand outlook for the winter of FY2015.
Taking into account the effects of the electricity savings that everyone has been very cooperative with, we estimate that the electricity demand in January and February in FY2015 is expected to reach 45.6 GW if the weather during that period is as cold as an average year, or 48.4 GW if it is bitterly cold as for the same months in FY2013.
To meet this demand, we estimate that we will have 51.5 GW of electric supply capacity in January and 51.6 GW in February even if this winter will be as severe as FY2013.
This means that we will secure 3.1GW of the reserve capacity (6.4% of the reserve margin) even if it will be as cold as January in FY2013, and thus be able to provide a stable supply of electricity.
At the Electricity Supply-Demand Review Meeting held by the government today, they requested cooperation for saving electricity without setting any specific numerical targets, *a nationwide measure (except for the areas serviced by the Okinawa Electric Power Company, Inc.). We would be grateful for your continued cooperation to save as much electricity as possible.
We at TEPCO will continue to put forth our best efforts to maintain a stable supply of electricity by securing an electric supply capacity through the steady operation and maintenance of our power facilities.
* The government estimates that if we consciously save electricity every day, we will be able to reduce electricity consumption by 7.8% (the areas serviced by TEPCO) compared with the amount of the maximum electric power consumption in FY2010.
The time period to save electricity requested by the government: 9:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. on weekdays (except from Tuesday, December 29 to Thursday, December 31) during the period from Tuesday, December 1, 2015 to Thursday, March 31, 2016.
