Fukushima Daiichi NPS Prompt Report 2015

We have completed closing the seaside impermeable wall, one of the major initiatives for water management at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station. This is an important milestone in our progress toward water management on the site. We greatly appreciate the hard work and great efforts of our TEPCO employees as well as our contractor partners and others who have collaborated with us.

Fukushima Daiichi sits on a hillside between the mountains and the sea. As water flows downhill, it flows around and under Fukushima Daiichi. The seaside impermeable wall is designed to ensure further protection of the ocean by blocking water from flowing into the sea. It was constructed by driving steel pipe sheet-piles deep into the impervious bedrock across a width of about 800 meters.

We have enhanced the water quality monitoring inside the port, and we will make the analysis results public. We provide information on the evaluation results of ocean water quality at regular press conferences. We also make it available for everyone through our website, Facebook, and other social media including Twitter. We recognize society's interest in knowing as much as possible about these matters, and we are committed to being transparent.

Again, I wish to thank all the people whose hard work has made this achievement possible. They continue to work hard every day to safely decommission Fukushima Daiichi. We support them, and we are committed to continued steady progress, giving safety top priority. We will continue to reach out for the advice and support that has been graciously provided by both domestic and international experts, which we deeply appreciate. And we will continue to fulfill our responsibility for the revitalization of Fukushima.
