Press Release (Jan 20, 2015)Regarding the fatal accident at Fukushima Daini NPS involving a cooperative company employee working in Units 1 and 2 waste treatment facility
On January 20, at around 9:30 A.M., an employee of a cooperative company was injured while inspecting the concentration apparatus
*1 on the 5th floor of the Units 1 and 2 waste treatment facility (radiation controlled area
*2) an ambulance was called at 9:37 A.M. The ambulance arrived at the site at 9:50 A.M. and TEPCO received a message from the emergency medical assistance that it had requested an air ambulance at 9:52 A.M.
At 10:48 A.M., the worker was transported to Iwaki Kyoritsu Hospital by the air ambulance.
Later, his death was confirmed by a medical doctor at 11:57 P.M.
We pray that his soul rest in peace and express our sincere condolences to the family.

Four facilities which reduce and contain the radioactive waste fluid that is created in the building are located on the 3rd and 4th floor of waste treatment facility.
*2 radiation controlled area
A managed area required in order to protect from unnecessary radioactive exposure and reduce any contamination by radioactive materials.
