FUKUSHIMA, July 15, 2014- Early this morning, small fire was found coming out from a generator equipped to supply electricity to the air conditioner of a worker rest house at the frozen soil wall (ice wall) construction site inside Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, but was put out immediately via an extinguisher and no one was injured, Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) announced.
The fire was found from a part of the generator of which its capacity is 45kVA (size: length 1.85m, width 0.88m, height 1.6m) by one of the workers at the construction site at approximately 7:18 AM today, and soon after, it was put out by them using a powder extinguisher. It was reported to the fire department at around 7:36 AM. The generator has been operating for two hours at that time, but the company said it will continue investigating the cause.
The schedule of the frozen wall construction will not be affected by the fire, the company said. No one was injured, and inspection and monitoring shows the situation in all the reactors within the facility are normal.
