Fukushima Daiichi NPS Prompt Report 2014

FUKUSHIMA, July 12, 2014- The Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, which was crippled by an earthquake-related tsunami in March 2011, was unharmed by today's 6.8 magnitude earthquake off the Fukushima coast, and no significant tsunami activity is expected,  the Tokyo Electric Power Company announced.

Inspection and monitoring shows the situation in all the reactors within the facility are normal, and all workers are safe with no injuries reported, the company said.

As a precaution, workers were instructed to leave the coastal areas of the plant for higher ground, but little change in tidal level, only about 30 centimeters, was observed inside the port of the nearby Fukushima Daini facility. Presently as the tsunami precaution has been lifted, the company said it has begun patrolling the coastal area inside the site.

Monitoring and safety precautions will continue, the company said, and any updates, if needed, will be reported promptly.
