Given the lessons learnt from the accident at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, TEPCO is currently reinforcing safety measures, including water injection and cooling functions for reactors, at Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Station. The company is planning to install filter vent facilities in Units 6 and 7 in order to further enhance the reliability of such safety measures.
Regarding filter vent facilities, TEPCO submitted documents seeking advance approval to Niigata Prefecture, Kashiwazaki City, and Kariwa Village in accordance with the "agreement on safety securement for surrounding regions of TEPCO Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Station", and received advance approval from Kashiwazaki City and Kariwa Village.
TEPCO is planning to install underground filter vent facilities in addition to the above-ground filter vent facilities for which the documents seeking advance approval were already submitted. Today, TEPCO submitted a revised version of the "general outline of the plan regarding filter vent facilities for Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Station Units 6 and 7" to Niigata Prefecture.
In addition, the company submitted documents seeking advance agreement to Kashiwazaki City and Kariwa Village concerning the underground filter vent facilities.
