Press Releases 2013

Press Release (Dec 06, 2013)Submission of 'Report on Failure or Like Trouble at Nuclear Reactor Facility for Power Generation' concerning the Water Leak from the Top Plate of a Tank in B South area in Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station

At around 8:00 PM on October 2, 2013, a TEPCO employee found water dropping from around the top plate of B south area (No.5 tank of A group at B area), while he was working there for the purpose of treating the water accumulated inside the dike in B south area, where treated water from the desalination apparatus was stored.

At around 8:05 on the same day, after examining the situation at the site, we found that the water leaked from the top plate of that tank was dropping not only inside the dike, but also outside the dike via a scaffold installed around the tank for inspection.

At 9:55 PM on the same day, we determined therefore this incident corresponds to 'a case when nuclear fuel material (not in the form of gas) or the like has leaked within an area controlled by the company due to an unpredictable events such as a failure of a nuclear reactor facility for power generation as per Article 18, item 12 of the regulations concerning the operational safety and the protection of specified nuclear fuel material at the TEPCO's Fukushima Daiichi NPS nuclear reactor facilities.' (Hereinafter, referred to as 'Fukushima Daiichi Regulations')

On October 11, 2013, we reported the details of the water leak from around the top late of a tank in B south area in Fukushima Daiichi NPS to the Nuclear Regulation Authority, based on Article 18, item 12 of Fukushima Daiichi Regulations (Report on Failure or Like Trouble).

We will continue to precisely investigate causes, and take a leak prevention measure. Also, we will summarize the outcomes, and report to the Nuclear Regulation Authority.

(Previously announced on October 3 and 11, 2013)

We would like to announce that we reported today the details of the water leak from the top plate of a tank in B south area in Fukushima Daiichi NPS to the Nuclear Regulation Authority, based on Article 18, item 12 of Fukushima Daiichi Regulations (Report on Failure of Like Trouble).
