Video explaining the fuel removal operation describes the workers' tremendous efforts towards the safer storage of fuel assemblies inside the common pool
Fukushima, Japan, Dec. 2, 2013 - TEPCO announced that they have successfully completed the storage of all 22 spent fuel assemblies, which were transported from the Unit 4 spent fuel pool, inside the safer, common pool at Fukushima Daiichi NPS.
The fuel assemblies were loaded into the transportation cask from November 26 to 27, and transported to the common pool building on November 29. On November 30, work to transfer the assemblies to the fuel rack inside the common pool started at 1:00PM and completed at 5:03PM without incident.
The removal of all fuel inside the Unit 4 spent fuel pool is planned to take until the end of 2014.
