We have been conducting construction for installing the cover for fuel removal from the Unit 4 spent fuel pool at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station since April 17, 2012 according to "Mid-and-Long-Term Roadmap towards the Decommissioning of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station Units 1-4". We would like to announce that we received a completion certificate for the pre-use inspection from the Nuclear Regulation Authority today (on November 12), and that the construction was thereby completed.
The construction has progressed as follows.
・ March 23, 2012: Preparatory construction began.
・ April 17, 2012: Main construction began.
・ January 8, 2013: Erection of steel framing of the cover for fuel removal began.
・ May 29, 2013: Erection of steel framing of the cover for fuel removal was completed.
・ June 7, 2013: Installation of the overhead traveling crane and fuel handling machine began.
・ July 13, 2013: Installation of the fuel handling machine was completed.
・ July 20, 2013: Installation of the outer wall and roof panels was completed.
・ September 25, 2013: Installation of the overhead traveling crane was completed.
・ October 16, 2013: The pre-use inspection by the Nuclear Regulation Authority began.
・ November 12, 2013: A completion certificate for the pre-use inspection by the Nuclear Regulation Authority was received, and the construction was thereby completed.
Hereafter, we will proceed with preparations toward removal of fuel contained in the Unit 4 spent fuel pool.
