Fukushima Daiichi NPS Prompt Report (Oct 18, 2013)Oil leakage from Heavy Equipment at Fukushima Daiichi NPS (Follow-up Information)

This is follow-up information regarding oil leakage from a 50-ton rafter crane in a heavy equipment yard, which occurred today (on October 18).

We would like to make corrections to our previous announcement as follows, and provide updated information, regarding the incident.

At around 8:40 AM today (on October 18), the driver of the 50-ton rafter crane, who is a cooperative company worker, found oil leaking from the crane after driving it from the heavy equipment yard, located near the five-street intersection in the central part of Fukushima Daiichi NPS, to the work site located in front of the gymnasium.

Then, at 8:46 AM, the driver drove the crane back to the heavy equipment yard, and checked for locations where oil was spilled. The spilled oil was found to be fuel oil (light oil) leaked from a fuel filter. At 10:40 AM, the leakage was found to have stopped.

The leaked oil was found spread over an area of about 50cm x 50cm on the road surface in the heavy equipment yard, and cleanup of this oil using an absorption mat was completed at 9:40 AM. Additionally, the leaked oil was found spread over an area of about 200cm x 200cm in front of the gymnasium, and cleanup of this oil was completed at 10:20 AM.

We are to spray a neutralizing agent to clear the oil spilled on the road surface of a route taken by the crane.
