Fukushima Daiichi NPS Prompt Report 2013

Fukushima Daiichi NPS Prompt Report (Sep 15, 2013)Influence of Rainfall from Approaching Typhoon on Fukushima Daiichi NPS

We would like to announce influence of rainfall from the approaching typhoon on Fukushima Daiichi NPS.

In coping with overflow of accumulated water inside the dike in the B area's south side, we have been transferring the accumulated water inside the dike to a tank in the same area since 1:13 PM today (on September 15), and have transferred almost all of the accumulated water. Therefore, we stopped the transfer at 3:22 PM on the same day.

Meanwhile, at 1:30 PM today (on September 15), sandbags (set for the purpose of suppressing further outflow of water having leaked from the H4 area tank) that had been set at the drainage channel B (at a point immediately short of the junction with the drainage channel C) in the contaminated water storage tank area were found to have been swept away due to rainfall from the approaching typhoon. Therefore, at 3:20 PM on the same day, we completed work of resetting sandbags at this location. Please note that, before sandbags were swept away, we already collected residual water in front of the sandbags set at the drainage channel B by this morning using a pump, in preparation for the typhoon.
