Fukushima Daiichi NPS Prompt Report 2013

Fukushima Daiichi NPS Prompt Report (Sep 01, 2013)Water Leak at a Tank in the H4 area in Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (Follow-up Information 20)

This is follow-up information on the "water leak at a tank in the H4 area in Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station" found on August 19.

As we confirmed the status of water dropping from the connecting pipe of Tank No.5 in Group IV in the H5 area and Tank No.6 in Group IV in the H5 area with the heat reserving material and absorption mat having been pulled out, a flange part connecting an isolation valve on the side of Tank No.5 (there are 2 isolation valves connecting each tank and connecting pipe) and the connecting pipe was found dripping one drop per approx. 90 seconds at around 11:10 PM yesterday (on August 31).

Later, we wound adsorption mat around this flange part and install vinyl protection, while placing a drain receiving pan under the flange part on the floor.

Both 2 isolation valves on the side of Tank No.5 and No.6 of this connecting pipe were found to be closed.

We will implement countermeasures such as tightening of this flange part, etc., soon after it is ready.
