Fukushima Daiichi NPS Prompt Report 2013

Fukushima Daiichi NPS Prompt Report (Aug 23, 2013)Tritium Density Result of Water Quality Survey inside the Port of Fukushima Daiichi NPS (Follow-up Information 41)

This is follow-up information on the latest situation concerning the detection of high densities of Tritium and Strontium in the observation hole at the east side of the Unit 1-4 Turbine Buildings of Fukushima Daiichi NPS.

Today (on August 23), we obtained the following measurement results:
·Tritium in seawater inside the port (at the port entrance and in the east, west, north, and south sides inside the port) (samples taken on August 19)

The respective analysis results showed higher values than the previous results. In the past, however, high values were sporadically detected sometimes. We will continuously monitor the trends.

<At the port entrance>
- Sampling on August 19: Tritium 68Bq/L
- Sampling on August 12: Tritium ND (2.8Bq/L) (previously announced)

<In the east side inside the port>
- Sampling on August 19: Tritium 67Bq/L
- Sampling on August 12: Tritium ND (2.8Bq/L) (previously announced)

<In the west side inside the port>
- Sampling on August 19: Tritium 59Bq/L
- Sampling on August 12: Tritium 4.8Bq/L (previously announced)

<In the north side inside the port>
- Sampling on August 19: Tritium 52Bq/L
- Sampling on August 12: Tritium 6.5Bq/L (previously announced)

<In the south side inside the port>
- Sampling on August 19: Tritium 60Bq/L
- Sampling on August 12: Tritium 3.4Bq/L (previously announced)

* ND indicates a case where the result is below the detection limit value. The detection limit value is shown inside the parentheses.

We are continuing to tackle this problem in such manners as to intensely bring forward implementation of contamination prevention measures such as foundation improvement work to the bank protection, and comprehensively intensify the monitoring by using the results of additional boring to drill additional locations, and the analyses results on seawater at such locations as the port interior and the water outlets.
