Fukushima Daiichi NPS Prompt Report 2013

Fukushima Daiichi NPS Prompt Report (Aug 15, 2013)Tritium Density Result of Water Quality Survey inside the Port of Fukushima Daiichi NPS (Follow-up Information 35)

This is follow-up information on the latest situation concerning the detection of high densities of Tritium and Strontium in the observation hole at the east side of the Unit 1-4 Turbine Buildings of Fukushima Daiichi NPS.

We would like to make an announcement on measurement results (chloride density, γ nuclide, all β) in water sampled on August 14 from the newly sampled vertical shaft B at Unit 1 seawater piping trench, as we obtained the results.

As for the result of tritium, we will announce as soon as we obtain it.

<Vertical shaft B at Unit 1 seawater piping trench>
- Sampling on August 14:
Chloride density 19,500ppm
Cesium-134 3,800Bq/L
Cesium-137 7,800Bq/L
All-β 63Bq/L

We are continuing to intensify the monitoring by using the results of additional boring to drill additional locations, and the analyses results on seawater at such locations as the port interior and the water outlets. In addition, we are continuing to tackle this problem in such manners as to intensely bring forward implementation of contamination prevention measures such as transferring and blocking of the contaminated water inside the water intake power cable trench, purification of the contaminated water inside the seawater piping trench, as well as foundation improvement work to the bank protection.
