Fukushima Daiichi NPS Prompt Report 2013

Fukushima Daiichi NPS Prompt Report (Jul 24, 2013)Suspension of a Suction Pump Installed at Dust Radiation Monitor B System in the Exhaust System Exit of Unit 2 Reactor Building at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (Follow-up information 2)

This is a follow-up report on the statuses of suspension of a suction pump installed at dust radiation monitor B system in the exhaust system exit of Unit 2 Reactor Building on July 23.

Abnormality of a airtight motor occurred at dust radiation monitor B system in the exhaust system exit of Unit 2 Reactor Building, and the suction pump was suspended yesterday (July 23). Therefore, the dislocation of position detector of airtight device was adjusted, and the suction pump was restarted at 11:43 PM yesterday (July 23).

At around 12:00 PM today (July 24), an alarm went off indicating a failure of the dust radiation monitor B system (abnormal pressure), and the suction pump was suspended again. Since dust radiation monitor A system is under repair, both A system and B system of dust radiation monitor cannot make measurement.

We are now investigating the site, and will announce the status as soon as we know it.

The exhaust system of Reactor Building is operating normally. No abnormality was found in the plant data (temperature of the bottom of the RPV and inside the PCV, etc.), and no significant change was found in the monitoring post readings.
