Fukushima Daiichi NPS Prompt Report (May 09, 2013)Water Leak from the Underground Reservoirs in Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (Follow-up Information No.133)
This is follow-up information regarding the water leak from the underground reservoirs at Fukushima Daiichi NPS.
The results of sampling performed in the underground reservoirs yesterday (May 8) are as follows.
- Drain holes of the underground reservoirs No.1-7
- Leakage detection holes of the underground reservoirs No.1-4 and 6
- Observation holes of the underground reservoirs (around reservoirs No.1-3): A1-A19
- Observation holes of the underground reservoirs (around reservoir No.6): B1-B3
- Observation holes of the underground reservoirs (around reservoir No.2): 2-3, 2-4 (analysis performed for the first time)
As announced yesterday (May 8), the chloride concentration was found to have increased in the leakage detection hole (northeast) of the underground reservoir No.1. The all β density in the location was also found to have increased (from 1.3×10
3Bq/cm
3 to 4.0×10
3Bq/cm
3).
No significant change was found with the results obtained in other leakage detection holes and the drain holes compared to the previous analysis results.
As for the new observation holes around the underground reservoir No.2 (at 2 locations), the all β densities were below the detection limit.
The results of tritium sampling performed on May 1 (analysis performed once a week) are as follows.
- Drain holes of the underground reservoirs No.1-4 and 6
- Leakage detection holes of the underground reservoirs No.1-4 and 6
No significant change was found with the tritium analysis results compared to the previous results.

The water level, etc. of the underground reservoirs will continue to be intensively monitored.
