Fukushima Daiichi NPS Prompt Report 2013

Fukushima Daiichi NPS Prompt Report (Apr 07, 2013)Water Leak from the Underground Reservoirs in Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (Follow-up Information No.15)

This is follow-up information regarding the water leak from the underground reservoirs at Fukushima Daiichi NPS.

We conducted additional nuclide analysis of the leakage detector hole water (southwest side: by vacuum method) and the drain hole water (northeast side) at the Underground Reservoir 3, which locates next to the east side of the Underground Reservoir 2 (previously announced).
The analyzed results are as follows.

Approximately the same amounts of chloride and all β nuclide as the previous analysis results were detected at Underground Reservoir 3.

We will continue to strengthen monitoring the water level of Underground Reservoir 3 and review countermeasures for this incident.

[Underground Reservoir No.3: Drain hole water, northeast side (sampled at 3:20AM, April 7)]
[Results]
-Chloride concentration: 10ppm
-I-131: N.D(Below detection limit)(Detection limit:2.8 x 10^-2 Bq/cm3)
-Cs-134: N.D(Detection limit:5.4 x 10^-2 Bq/cm3)
-Cs-137: N.D(Detection limit:6.7 x 10^-2 Bq/cm3)
-All β: N.D(Detection limit: 3.2 x 10^-2 Bq/cm3)

[Underground Reservoir No.3: Leakage detector hole water, southwest side (sampled by vacuum method* at 4:15AM, April 7)]
[Results]
-Chloride concetration: 380ppm
-I-131: N.D (Detection limit:6.0 x 10^-2 Bq/cm3)
-Cs-134: N.D(Detection limit:6.8 x 10^-2 Bq/cm3)
-Cs-137: N.D(Detection limit:7.6 x 10^-2 Bq/cm3)
-All β: 2.1 x 10^3 Bq/cm3 (Detection limit: 3.2 x 10^0 Bq/cm3)

*Vacuum method: A sampling method that uses vacuum equipment and hangs a hose down to vacuum water from the hole.
