Press Release (Apr 18,2012)
Status of TEPCO's Nuclear Power Stations after the Tohoku-Chihou-Taiheiyou-Oki Earthquake(Daily Report as of 3:00 pm, April 18)

Due to the Tohoku-Chihou-Taiheiyou-Oki Earthquake which occurred on March 11, 2011, TEPCO's facilities including our nuclear power stations have been severely damaged. We deeply apologize for the anxiety and inconvenience caused.
With regard to the accident at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, on April 17, 2011, we have compiled the roadmap towards restoration from the accident and on July 19 we accomplished the Step1 target "Radiation dose is in steady decline". Then on December 16 we confirmed the accomplishment of the Step 2 target "Release of radioactive materials is under control and radiation doses are being significantly held down".
In addition, on December 21, 2011, we have compiled the "Mid-to-long-Term Roadmap toward the Decommissioning of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Units 1-4, TEPCO".
In addition to the maintenance of the plant's stable condition, we will implement Mid-to-Long Term countermeasures towards the decommissioning of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Units 1-4 to enable evacuees to return to their homes as soon as possible and reduce the anxiety of the people in Fukushima and the whole nation as soon as possible.

Below is the status of TEPCO's nuclear power stations (Fukushima Daiichi and Fukushima Daini).

* The updates are underlined.

[Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station]
・ Unit 1 to 3: shut down due to the earthquake
・ Unit 4 to 6: outage due to regular inspections before the earthquake

- At 10:00 am on April 17, we started transferring of accumulated water from the basement of turbine building of Unit 6 to the temporary tank. At 4:00 pm on the same day, the transfer was suspended. At 10:00 am on April 18, we restarted the transfer.

At 8:45 am on April 18, we temporarily stopped the 2nd Cesium Adsorption Apparatus (Sarry) in order to implement washing of the filter.

At 9:25 am on April 18, we started transferring of accumulated water from the Site Banker Building to the Process Main Building at the Centralized Radiation Waste Treatment Facility.

- After we transferred the accumulated water in the circulation pump exhaustion pit of Unit 2 to the basement floor of Unit 2 turbine building as preventive measures against outflows to the sea from April 15 to April 17, on April 18, we started the works for blocking of the same pit and the Unit 2 power source cable trench*.
* if the water level in the same pit reduce, groundwater may flow in the pit, after this we will transfer the water as needed.

[Fukushima Daini Nuclear Power Station]
・ Unit 1 to 4: shutdown due to the earthquake

- At the shallow draft quay of Fukushima Daini Nuclear Power Station, a worker from cooperative company engaged in marine soil covering work for Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station port was injured by being caught between a vessel and revetment (Uncontrolled area). At 10:25 am on April 17, the ambulance was called. At 10:50 am, the doctor-helicopter was called. At 11:15 am, the doctor-helicopter arrived at the site and the worker was transported to Iwaki Kyoritsu General Hospital at 11:41 am. The worker retains consciousness and no radioactive material was found on the body. As a result of having examined, the worker was given a diagnosis of as needing complete cure two months at present by "Pulmonary contusion, Frequent occurrence ribs bone fracture, Right hemopneumothorax, Traumatic pulmonary cyst and Bruised body". The worker is hospitalization medical treatment now and his condition is stable. The cause of t his accident is under investigation. After this, we examine the measures to prevent a recurrence based on the results of investigations.
