Press Release (Oct 29,2011)
Status of TEPCO's Facilities and its services after the Tohoku-Chihou-Taiheiyou-Oki Earthquake (as of 9:00 am, October 29)
Due to the Tohoku-Chihou-Taiheiyou-Oki Earthquake which occurred on March
11, 2011, TEPCO's facilities including our nuclear power stations have been
severely damaged. We deeply apologize for the anxiety and inconvenience
caused.
With regard to the accident at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, on
April 17, we have compiled the roadmap towards restoration from the
accident and then we updated the progress status of roadmap considering the
current situation, on July 19. Accomplishment of the Step1 target
"Radiation dose is in steady decline" has been confirmed. On October 17,
we updated the further progress.
By bringing the reactors and spent fuel pools to a stable cooling condition
and mitigating the release of radioactive materials, we will make every
effort to enable evacuees to return to their homes and for all citizens to
be able to secure a sound life.

Below is the status of TEPCO's major facilities.

* The underlined parts are the updates from the previous press release.

[Nuclear Power Station]

·Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station: Unit 1 to 3: shut down due to the
 earthquake
(Units 4 to 6: outage due to regular inspections)

- On October 28, we completed the installation of cover panels which cover
the reactor building of Unit 1 to control emission of radioactive
  materials.

- On October 28, we started the installation work of the water shielding
wall at the seaside in front of the existing seawalls of Units 1 to 4,
with the expectation of preventing further contamination in the ocean via
  grounder water.

- At 4:10 pm on October 28, we adjusted the amount of water injected to the
reactor of Unit 1 to approx. 4.5 m3/h in order to improve the working
condition inside the covers at Unit 1 by holding down the evaporation
  from the reactor.

- At 10:00 am on October 28, we started transferring low-level accumulated
water to Mega Float from a temporary tank where we had transferred from
the turbine building of Unit 6. At 4:00 pm on the same day, we stopped
  the transfer.

- At 12:53 pm on October 28, we started up the exhaust fan of gas
management system of primary containment vessel in the reactor building
of Unit 2 and commenced commissioning. After we confirmed the stable
operation of the system, from 6:00 pm on the same day, we put the system
  in operation.

- At around 2:20 pm on October 28, one of TEPCO's employee conducting
document check at administrative building has removed face mask when that
employee felt sick and vomit, We plan to conduct check the intake by
whole body counter. We have confirmed there was no contamination on the
face. After testing by the whole body counter, we evaluated that he did
not have intake of radioactive substances.

- At 8:30 am on October 29, two workers from the cooperating companies were
injured during dismantling of the large crane used to install the cover
for the Reactor Building, Unit 1 within the site boundary. One worker
will be transported to a hospital by an air ambulance, and the other
worker will be transported to the hospital by a company vehicle.

Units 1 to 4: shutdown due to the earthquake

·Kashiwazaki Kariwa Nuclear Power Station:
Units 5, 6: under normal operation
(Units 1 to 4 and 7: outage due to regular inspections)

[Thermal Power Station]
- Power supply has returned to normal and facilities damaged by the
earthquake are now being handled in a timely manner.

[Hydro Power Station]
- Power supply has returned to normal and facilities damaged by the
earthquake are now being handled in a timely manner.

[Impacts on Transmission Facilities]
- Power supply has returned to normal and facilities damaged by the
earthquake are now being handled in a timely manner.

[Impacts on Power Supply and Demand Balance]
Thanks to our all customer's energy-saving efforts, we could successfully
maintain an even supply-demand balance in this summer. We express our
deepest appreciation to the efforts.

While we will continue to exert maximum effort to stabilize the supply-
demand balance, we kindly request your continued efforts in keeping
electricity consumption within reasonable levels.
