We hereby announce that we have started the installation work for water
shielding wall at seaside at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station since
October 28, 2011, and we have completed the study on water shielding wall
at groundside, based on the "Roadmap towards Restoration from the Accident
at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, TEPCO," which was published on
October 17, 2011.
We install the water shielding wall at the seaside in front of existing
seawalls of Units 1 to 4, with the expectation of preventing further
contamination in the ocean via grounder water. Firstly, we start
preparatory work like geological survey including measurement and boring
survey.
For the installation work of the water-proof steel pipe sheet piles, we
will follow the necessary procedure like the application of license to
redeem publicly owned water surface, and will start the work as soon as we
complete the preparations.
For the water shielding wall at the groundside, we have analyzed the
effect and influence when they are installed in a comprehensive manner. As
a result, at the moment, we conclude that it is appropriate to address the
issue of ocean-contamination via ground water by implementing the
installation of water shielding wall at the seaside only.
For the installation of the water shielding wall at the groundside, we
will discuss the matter again at an appropriate point of time, based on
the progress of the other projects.
We, Tokyo Electric Power Company, will make it sure to prevent further
contamination in ocean via groundwater by commencing the installation work
of Water Shielding Wall at the Seaside immediately.
