Due to the Tohoku-Chihou-Taiheiyou-Oki Earthquake which occurred on March
11th 2011, TEPCO's facilities including our nuclear power stations have
been severely damaged. We deeply apologize for the anxiety and
inconvenience caused.
Below is the status of TEPCO's major facilities.
*New items are underlined
[Nuclear Power Station]
Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station:
Units 1 to 3: shutdown due to the earthquake
(Units 4 to 6: outage due to regular inspections)
*In order to prevent water containing radioactive materials from spilling
from a plant's port to the sea, we installed 120 meter wide silt fences
(double layered) around a breakwater on the south of the station at 10:45
am on April 11. On April 12 and 13, we installed three iron plates in
front of Unit 2 screen. At 1:50 pm on April 13, we installed silt fences
(double layered) in front of the screen of Unit 3 and 4. At 0:20 pm on
April 14, we installed silt fences in front of the screen of Unit 1 and 2,
and in front of intake of water.
*At 3:56 pm on April 14, water spray to the spent fuel pool of Unit 3 was
started with the concrete pumping vehicle.
Fukushima Daini Nuclear Power Station:
Units 1 to 4: shutdown due to the earthquake
Kashiwazaki Kariwa Nuclear Power Station:
Units 1, 5, 6, 7: normal operation
(Units 2 to 4: outage due to regular inspection)
[Thermal Power Station]
-Hirono Thermal Power Station Units 2 and 4: Shutdown due to the earthquake
-Hitachinaka Thermal Power Station Unit 1: Shutdown due to the earthquake
-Kashima Thermal Power Station Unit 6: Shutdown due to the earthquake
[Hydro Power Station]
-Power supply has returned to normal and facilities damaged by the
earthquake are now being handled in a timely manner.
[Impacts on Transmission Facilities]
-Power supply has returned to normal and facilities damaged by the
earthquake are now being handled in a timely manner.
[Avoidance of further Implementation on Planned Rolling Blackouts and
Request for Conserving Electricity Consumption]
Currently, we are working to restore electricity supply after our nuclear
and thermal power facilities were severely damaged by
Tohoku-Chihou-Taiheiyou-Oki Earthquake. The widespread understanding and
cooperation of our customers to conserve electricity have contributed to
the improvement of this tight power supply-demand balance situation.
Amidst this backdrop, since the electricity supply will be able to balance
with the demand for the time being, we have decided not to implement
further rolling blackouts in principle.
However, we must sincerely ask for your continued cooperation in reducing
electricity consumption due to the possible increase in demand caused by
warmer weather or unexpected trouble at power stations that are currently
being restored to service. In case the electricity supply-demand balance
becomes tighter than expected, as stated, we may reluctantly restart the
implementation of rolling blackouts. We kindly ask for your cooperation.
We will do our best to maintain this policy of avoiding further
implementation of rolling blackouts during the summer.
