Nonconformances Found in the Inspection and Restoration Works Performed after the Niigata-Chuetsu-Oki Earthquake (March 19th)
We are announcing the status of major inspections and restoration works and 
nonconformances at TEPCO's Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Station after 
the Niigata-Chuetsu-Oki Earthquake.  

1. Inspection/Restoration Status

 ○ Inspection and restoration completed between March 14th to March 19th, 2008.
    (Completed on the following date) 

  • Unit No.2 Fuel and control rod inspection (visual inspection of control rod):
      March 17th 
  • Unit No.2 Fuel and control rod inspection (inspection of spent fuel pool rack 
    etc.): 
      March 19th 
  • Unit No.5 Excitation transformers inspection (internal inspection): 
      March 17th 
  • Unit No.6 Fuel and control rod inspection (visual inspection of fuel): 
      March 17th 
  • Unit No.7 Reactor well inspection (confirmation of leakage):

2. Nonconformances Found in the Inspection and Restoration Works Performed after the 
   Niigata-Chuetsu-Oki Earthquake

   Based on the "Public Announcement Regarding Nonconformance Found in the Inspection 
   and Restoration Works Performed after the Niigata-Chuetsu-Oki Earthquake", the Tokyo 
   Electric Power Company, Incorporated (TEPCO) provides this announcement containing 
   incidents information reported from March 13th to March 18th, 2008.

○ Other Findings • Unit No.7: As for the inspection for forks of the 14th-stage rotor blades of the low-pressure turbine (C), damage was found on a part of one rotor blade on March 3rd, 2008. Detailed inspection to verify the soundness of the relevant part has been conducted since March 7th, 2008, and based on visual inspection, no additional damage was found (announced on March 13, 2008) Subsequently, non-destructive inspection was conducted for forks of 151 rotor blades except for the one already found to be damaged. As a result, indications were found on the fork of 17 rotor blades. Investigation on the cause of the indication will be conducted as well as visual and non-destructive inspection for other forks of the 14th-stage rotor blades of the low-pressure turbine (A), (B) and (C).
