Challenges of TEPCO

  1. Energy & Resources

Responding to Fluctuations in Demand
The manner in which electricity is used varies significantly from season to season and according to whether it is used during the day or at night. For instance, late at night on a summer's day, the electric power demand may drop to less than 50% of the daytime level.
Thermal power generation can absorb this kind of change in demand. In other words, adjustment of output to meet the power consumption requirements of customers is achieved by daily start-up and shut-down (DSS), weekend shut-down (WES), and other methods at the company's thermal power plants to achieve a stable and adaptable supply of electric power.
