Smart Meter System Operations Status

Tokyo Electric Power Company (hereafter, TEPCO) started new operations in July of this year, that include new service1 and remote meter reading2 making use of the Smart Meter System in all service areas3 for customers with Smart Meter installed.

As well, in conjunction with the start of service in all of TEPCO's service areas, a 24 hour constant monitoring Smart Meter Operations Center for security, operations, and maintenance was established internally on July 1st for effective management and centralized control.

The aim is to have Smart Meter installations for all customers completed by 2020 (approx. 2.7 million). At present, approximately 2.4 million are installed in TEPCO's service area (as of the end of July), and the telecommunications network connection rate4 for the first-phase areas5 are approx. 100%. Of the total service area, approx. 97% has been reached.

In the future, the installation rate will increase and be environment-ready, the connection rates are expected to further increase contributing to a smooth operation of the entire Smart Meter System.

TEPCO will continue with stable operations for the Smart Meter System to improve reliability.
