In accordance with the verbal instructions received from NISA on August 1, 2012, we have summarized a report on the outline of the partial peel-off on the upper part of the channel box*1 found in the past at Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Station, the investigation conducted and the countermeasures implemented, and submitted it to NISA today. (Previously announced on August 10, 2012)
Today, we have received a directive document*2 from NISA regarding the partial damage on the upper part (clip) on the channel box.
According to the direction received, we will investigate for similar damages on the upper part (clip) on the channel boxes installed on the fuel assembly in the reactor and the spent fuel pool, and report the result to NISA.
*1 Channel box: Square metal tube cover installed on the fuel assembly. By installing the channel box, the coolant flow path through the fuel assembly can be fixed. It also functions as a guide when the control rods operate and protects the fuel assembly.
