Status of TEPCO's Nuclear Power Stations after the Tohoku-Chihou-Taiheiyou-Oki Earthquake (Daily Report as of 4:00 PM, July 3)

Due to the Tohoku-Chihou-Taiheiyou-Oki Earthquake which occurred on March 11, 2011, TEPCO's facilities including our nuclear power stations have been severely damaged. We deeply apologize for the anxiety and inconvenience caused.
With regard to the accident at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, on April 17, 2011, we have compiled the roadmap towards restoration from the accident and on July 19 we accomplished the Step1 target "Radiation dose is in steady decline". Then on December 16 we confirmed the accomplishment of the Step 2 target "Release of radioactive materials is under control and radiation doses are being significantly held down".
In addition, on December 21, 2011, we have compiled the "Mid-to-long-Term Roadmap toward the Decommissioning of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Units 1-4, TEPCO".
In addition to the maintenance of the plant's stable condition, we will implement Mid-to-Long Term countermeasures towards the decommissioning of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Units 1-4 to enable evacuees to return to their homes as soon as possible and reduce the anxiety of the people in Fukushima and the whole nation as soon as possible.

Below is the status of TEPCO's nuclear power stations (Fukushima Daiichi and Fukushima Daini).

[Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station]
· Unit 1 to 4: Abolishment (April 19, 2012)
· Unit 5 to 6: Outage due to regular inspections before the earthquake

- At 10:00AM on July 2, we started transferring accumulated water in Unit 6 Turbine Building basement to the temporary tank. At 4:00PM on the same day, we stopped transferring. At 10:00AM on July 3, we started transferring. At 4:00PM on the same day, we stopped transferring.

- At 10:08AM on July 2, on the basement level 1 of Unit6 Turbine Building, after the inspection of the dehumidifier for the compressed air system (IA system) was completed and the power of the dehumidifier was turned on, we found white smoke breaking out from the control panel. Immediately we shut off the power of the control panel for the dehumidifier. At 10:21AM on the same day we reported to a fire department. At 10:25AM on the same day no white smoke was confirmed. At 10:26AM on the same day, burn marks were confirmed on the transformer in the control panel. Afterward as a result of on-the-spot investigations by Namie fire station and Tomioka fire station, because the cause or facts could not be identified through visual checks for the appearance of the transformer, on July 3 after removing the transformer, investigations will be conducted again. On July 3, after removing the transformer, its picture was checked by Namie fire station. At 3:40PM, in conclusion this event was judged not to be a fire. This event does not cause any influence to the outside area.

- On July 3, dust sampling was conducted at Unit 2 Reactor Building opening (blow-out panel)

- On July 3, sampling was conducted at the charcoal filter and the particulate filter of Unit 2 PCV gas control system.

- On July 2, during the investigation of tanks to check those conditions at Unit 2 Waste Underground Storage Facility Building, the accumulated water was confirmed in the Spent Resin Storage Tank. The dose rate in this building was confirmed as 0.8mSv/h at the upper side of the tank and 20mSv/h or more at the position of 60cm above the water level. It is indeterminable whether this dose rate is affected by the contents of the tank or the accumulated water, therefore the nuclide analysis will be conducted later. There is no possibility of flowing to the outside area because the groundwater level is higher than the water level in this building.

[Fukushima Daini Nuclear Power Station]
· Unit 1 to 4 : Shutdown due to the earthquake.

- At 2:03 PM on July 3, Unit 4 residual heat removal system was switched from(A) to (B).The system (A) was stopped accordingly and the system(B) was started at 2:14PM on the same day.

- At Unit 1 to 3, the inspection of the power-supply facility for the residual heat removal system(A) and the emergency diesel generator(A) is scheduled from July 4 to July 20. As advanced preparation, from 1:25PM to 3:08PM on July 3 Unit 1 residual heat removal system(A) was not standby, from 1:25PM to 3:05PM on the same day Unit 2 residual heat removal system(A) and the emergency diesel generator(A) were not standby, from 10:27AM to 11:30AM on the same day Unit 3 residual heat removal system(A) and the emergency diesel generator(A) were not standby, afterward they were back to the state of standby.
