With regards to the water containing radioactive materials that we found accumulated in the trench between process main building and miscellaneous solid waste volume reduction treatment building (high temperature incinerator building) in the centralized radiation waste treatment facility at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station on December 18, we have received a directive documentation* "Regarding the response to the accumulated water which contains radioactive materials (Direction)" from Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency (NISA), Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) on December 19 and reported the progress made until January 6, 2012.

Thereafter, while we have been implementing inspection of trenches within the site of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station and have been determining existence of accumulated water and have been investigating water level and density of radio active materials, on January 20, we have received directive document from NISA "Regarding Response to the Accumulated Water Containing Radioactive Materials Found in Trench at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (Further Direction)"*2

On December 18, 2011, the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency (NISA) received a report from your company stating that the accumulated water containing radioactive materials was found in a trench at Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Station. In light of the event of a large amount of water containing radioactive materials accumulated in the trench, NISA requests your company to take measures as described below and to promptly report the results of the measures to NISA in order of implementation.
Required Items
1.To promptly transfer the water accumulated in the trench to the equipment that can appropriately manage the water;
2.To investigate the inflow route of the water accumulated in the trench and to consider the water stoppage measures;
3.To investigate the cause of the event that radioactive materials are contained in the water accumulated in the trench as well as to take recurrence prevention measures to prevent the water containing radioactive materials from flowing into the trench;
4.To formulate and implement the patrolling visual inspection and checkup plan to check the existence of accumulated water containing radioactive materials in other trenches.

On January 19, 2012, the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency (NISA) received a report from your company stating that the accumulated water containing relatively high density radioactive materials was found in a trench at Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Station, as per instruction of "Regarding Response to the Accumulated Water Containing Radioactive Materials Found in Trench at Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Station (Further Direction)" on December 19, 2011.
Your company has been investigating whether the radioactive material is contained in the accumulated water in the trench or not according to the plan. NISA requests your company to take following measures in order to take well-prepared actions:
Required Items
1.To consider measures for the accumulated water according to its density promptly and report the result to NISA
2.To report the fact to NISA when the accumulated water containing radioactive materials is discovered, and to report to NISA whether it was discharged to the sea or not, investigation of its route, transfer of accumulated water and measures against water stop, promptly.
