Tokyo Electric Power Company, Inc.
President, Toshio Nishizawa
Today, exactly one year has passed since the occurrence of the devastating
Tohoku-Chihou-Taiheiyou-Oki Earthquake that struck our nation. In looking
back at the events of the past year, I would like to take this opportunity
to express our heartfelt sympathy to all those who passed away and their
loved ones. Our thoughts and prayers are with them and also with those
people who continue to be affected by the terrible events that unfolded on
that tragic day.
We also extend our deepest apologies to all residents of the neighboring
region of Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant and Fukushima Prefecture as well as
broader society for the concern and anxiety that arose on account of the
accident at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station. Moreover, I must
express my sincerest appreciation to all those parties, both domestic and
international, who provided much support and assistance to us during this
time of tribulation.
While always keeping in mind the tremendous responsibility we have to
maintain stable conditions at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Plant, we will
continue to safely work towards the mid-to-long term decommissioning of the
reactors. In addition, all TEPCO group companies will further intensify
their efforts to care for the presently afflicted and provide the
compensation due them in a swift manner.
The day of March 11th is forever etched on the hearts and minds of every
TEPCO employee. Hence, we will dedicate all of our strength and all of our
resources to overcome the many challenges that still lie ahead of us while
always remembering that no matter what tasks we are presently engaged in,
safety must be our top priority.
