We would like to inform that 13th regular inspection for Unit 5 (Boiling
Water Reactor type, Rated Capacity: 1,100 MW) of Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear
Power Station will start from January 25, 2012.
1. Planned Shutdown Period for the Regular Inspection
January 25, 2012 - Not yet determined
(Planned Work Period in the Shutdown for the Regular Inspection: About
less than 5 months)
2. Main Facilities to be Inspected in the Regular Inspection
(1)Reactor
(2)Facilities of Reactor Cooling System
(3)Facilities of Measurement Control System
(4)Facilities of Fuel
(5)Facilities of Radiation Control
(6)Facilities of Waste
(7)Facilities of Primary Containment Vessel
(8)Equipment of Emergency Back-up Generator
(9)Steam Turbine
3. Schedule of Main Construction Work during the Regular Inspection
(1)Replacement of Fuel Assembly
180 assemblies in total 764 assemblies are replaced.
(2)Retrofit and Replacement Work for Pipe Arrangement of Reactor Core
Isolation Cooling System
Vent pipeline to exhaust mixed gas (hydrogen and oxygen) is newly
installed to avoid storage or accumulation of the mixed gas which is
made by radiation resolution of water in reactor.
(3)Repair Work for Pipe Arrangement of Make Up Water System
Manual valve is newly installed at the boundary between radioactive
fluid and non-radioactive fluid as a countermeasure against leakage
of radioactive fluid to outside system.
(4)Countermeasure against Tsunami
As countermeasures against tsunami, the following facilities are
installed.
· Installation of permanent cable from emergency high voltage
distribution board to emergency high voltage distribution board in
reactor building
· Installation of alternative seawater heat exchanger
· Installation of top vent facilities in reactor building
4. Others
(1) Facility inspection based on the special maintenance plan
In order to continuously monitor the impact of the Niigata chuestu oki
earthquake occurred on July 16 2007, we will implement the nondestructive
inspection for the parts which were once evaluated to suffer no damage
through the fatigue inspection. Also we will implement the inspection for
the facilities which had slight damage from the earthquake but considered
to suffer no damage on their function.
(2) Inspection of the duct in the ventilation and air conditioning system
As part of the countermeasure for the malfunction in the duct of the
ventilation and air conditioning system found in Fukushima Daiichi NPS in
March 2008, we will implement the inspection of the duct in the ventilation
and air conditioning system during this periodic inspection.
(3) Repair of jet pump* sensing line support
As par of the countermeasure for the malfunction of the flow measurement
pipe of jet pump found in Kashiwazaki Kariwa Unit 2 on March 12, 2010, we
will implement the inspection and the repair of jet pump flow measurement
pipe and its support which are considered to have potential malfunction.
(4) Inspection of Hafnium control rod through observation
In order to monitor the soundness of the control rod using Hafnium as
neutron absorber, we will implement the inspection through observation for
the two control rod with highest neutron irradiation among those removed
during this periodic inspection.
We will consult with the national and local government for the activation
of the plant.
* Jet Pump
Static pump without the rotating parts which circulates the coolant water
inside the reactor by utilizing the pressured water via reactor coolant
recirculation pump.
