Press Release (Jan 19,2012)
Status of the inspection of puddles in the trenches etc. at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station
Because of the finding of the puddle containing radioactive materials in
the trench between the main process building and the miscellaneous solid
waste volume reduction treatment building (high temperature incinerator
building), we started inspection of puddles in the trenches etc. at the
power station on January 11, 2012.

(Previously announced on January 11, 2012)

In the inspection conducted today, a member of Tepco discovered puddles in
the discharge valve pit of circulating water pump of Unit 2, 3 and 4 pump
rooms and common piping duct of Centralized Radiation Waste Treatment
Facility Waste System.
As a result of nuclide analysis of the water, it was found out that the
water contains relatively highly-concentrated radioactive materials in the
2 points (discharge valve pit of circulating water pump of Unit 2 and 3
pump rooms)

<Confirmed concentration of radioactive materials>
○Discharge valve pit of circulating water pump of Unit 2 pump room
 ·I-131 :below measurable limit
 ·Cs-134:7.1x103Bq/cm3
 ·Cs-137:9.1x103Bq/cm3
○Discharge valve pit of circulating water pump of Unit 3 pump room
 ·I-131 :below measurable limit
 ·Cs-134:3.8x102Bq/cm3
 ·Cs-137:4.8x102Bq/cm3
We presume that the accumulated water is not likely to have flown into the
ocean since we didn't detected significant change of seawater sampling
result of screen of unit 2 and 3 (inside and outside of silt fence) and
didn't confirmed outflow route to the ocean in the drawing of the pit
