Press Release (Jan 06,2012)
Upgrade of gas turbine facilities to combined cycle system owned by Chiba Thermal Power Station - Securing further electricity
supply and reducing environmental impact -
In our concerted efforts to secure electricity supply, we have organized
an action plan to introduce a combined cycle system by upgrading the gas
turbine facilities that we are installing on the grounds of Chiba Thermal
Power Station.

To be precise, in the wake of the earthquake of March 11, 2011, under the
stringent condition of demand and supply balance, we will start commercial
operation of three gas turbines (1,002MW: 334MW×3units) in order to secure
electricity supply as emergency measures, for which we will compete
installation on the grounds of Chiba Thermal Power Station by July 2012,
as per scheduled. After that, we will have all of the three gas turbines
upgraded to combined cycle system for regular use by July 2014.

As a result, the total output will reach 1,500MW (500MW×3units) with the
thermal efficiency of 58%, adding 500MW to the existing plan, as well as
reducing environmental impact.

We will continuously make utmost efforts to secure electric power supply.
In response to the demand and supply balance changes due to unplanned
outages and demand increase, we will be steadfast in electricity supply by
running the emergency power sources we installed last year.
