TEPCO has been concentrating every effort to secure electricity supply
since the Tohoku -Chihou-Taiheiyo- Oki Earthquake, where many of TEPCO's
power stations have been shut down, as we will be able to foresee securing
additional capacity, we will restate our peak demand supply capacity of
this summer will be around 55.2 GW to 56.2 GW upward.
In addition, in order to continue avoiding the rolling blackouts, as it
is still necessary that we will continue to exert utmost effort to
strengthen the capacity for power supply as well as would also like to
ask our customers to cooperate in reducing electricity consumption in
summer time in light of the "Outline of Countermeasures for Power Supply
and Demand During Summertime" presented by the Electricity Supply-Demand
Emergency Response Headquarters of the Japanese government, we have
summarized our efforts as outlined below.
1.Supply and Demand Status and Outlook
Due to the foreseeable restoration of all the thermal power stations
except for those under long-term scheduled shut down, newly installment
of gas turbine generators and further improvement of usage of pumped
storage hydro, we will restate our peak demand supply capacity of this
summer will be around 55.2 GW (at the end of July) to 56.2 GW (at the
end of August) upward.
Through implementing both supply and demand side countermeasures of
this summer, we will contribute by supplying electricity maximum of
1.4 GW to mitigate demand supply balance of Tohoku area where suffered
from huge damages by disaster. Hence, taking electricity supply to
Tohoku area into consideration, the peak demand supply capacity will be
around 53.8 GW (at the end of July) to 54.8 GW (at the end of August).
As it will be anticipated the occurrence of unplanned outage of aged
thermal power stations or sudden increase of demand due to unexpected
high temperature summer may cause difficulties in maintaining stable
demand supply balance, in order to continue to avoid rolling blackouts,
we will continue our efforts to steadily implement countermeasures on
supply side and ensure additional capacity.

unit 5 to 8 (each 350 MW) of Yokosuka Power Station which is under
long-term scheduled shutdown.

2.Demand-Side Countermeasures (changes after the April 15th report)
For the purpose of securing stable supple demand balance of this summer
period, in light of the "Outline of Countermeasures for Power Supply and
Demand During Summertime" presented by the Electricity Supply-Demand
Emergency Response Headquarters of the Japanese government today, we
will ask to every level of our customers corporations to save power use.
We strongly encourage our customer for further corporation to save power
usage.
(1) Customers above 500 kW of contract capacity
·visit all the customers to encourage saving power usage
·solicit demand and supply adjustment contract and expansion
·facilitate use of self generating facilities
(2) Customers below 500 kW of contract capacity receiving high-voltage
electricity
·encourage saving power usage to all customers and ask for the
decrease of contract capacity
·set up dedicated consultation dial for the customers
(3) Customers receiving low-voltage electricity
·endorse to encourage saving power usage to the electricity invoice
·distribute teasers
·encourage saving power usage to all customers at every opportunity
(4) Encourage saving power usage through media
·TV, radio, website, mobile site, Twitter (each includes "Denki
(Electricity)" Forecast)
(5) Re-examination of implementation of rolling blackout
·Review methodology of implementation of rolling blackout which is
"avoidance in principle" in anticipation of such situation.
